Cookie Policy

We use cookies to help improve your experience of , , and any other sites we own and operate. This cookie policy is part of Tekhnee’s privacy policy and covers the use of cookies between your device and our site.

If you do not wish to accept cookies from us, you should instruct your browser to refuse cookies from , with the understanding that we may be unable to provide you with some of your desired content and services.

What is a cookie?

A cookie is a small piece of data that a website stores on your device when you visit, typically containing information about the website itself, a unique identifier that allows the site to recognise your web browser when you return, additional data that serves the purpose of the cookie, and the lifespan of the cookie itself.

Cookies are used to enable certain features (eg. logging in), to track site usage (eg. analytics), to store your user settings (eg. timezone, notification preferences), and to personalise your content (eg. advertising, language).

Cookies set by the website you are visiting are normally referred to as “first-party cookies”, and typically only track your activity on that particular site. Cookies set by other sites and companies (ie. third parties) are called “third-party cookies”, and can be used to track you on other websites that use the same third-party service.

Types of cookies and how we use them

Essential cookies

Essential cookies are crucial to your experience of a website, enabling core features like user logins, account management, and payment processing. We use essential cookies to enable certain functions on our website (e.g. logging in to TekhneeCloud). Unless the information collected by such cookies is anonymous, we will ask for your explicit and prior consent.

Performance cookies

Performance cookies are used to statistically study how visitors use our website, without collecting personal information about you. This information is anonymous, and aggregated with information tracked across all site users, in our effort to understand visitor usage patterns and identify or diagnose problems our users may encounter. In principle, these cookies may be set by this website (“first-party”) or by third-party services acting on Tekhnee’s behalf. In practice, though, rather than outsourcing our analytics to third parties, we prefer to rely on first-party open-source analytics software (such as Matomo) hosted on our own servers.

Functionality cookies

Functionality cookies are used in collecting non-personal data that is exempt from requirements of your consent, such as user-interface preferences, language and timezone settings. Such information enables us to provide you with customised, enhanced or optimised content and services. In principle, functionality cookies may be set by this website (“first-party”) or by third-party services acting on Tekhnee’s behalf. In an effort to eliminate third-party service cookies, we currently deploy only open-source software, such as NextCloud and Mautic, and host it on our own secure servers.

Targeting/advertising cookies

Targeting cookies are used in determining what content is more relevant to our website visitors. We may use such cookies to deliver targeted content to you. The information they gather is anonymous and cannot be attributed to you unless it is collated with personal information, such as your email address, that we could only obtain from you and with your explicit consent. We do not enlist third-party targeting or advertising cookies that track you on websites outside Tekhnee’s ownership. We do not use Facebook pixels, for instance.

Other third-party cookies on our site

In limited cases we may employ third-party companies and individuals on our websites—for example, statistical analytics providers and content partners—who may set third-party cookies in order to deliver their services and content to us. Such third-party cookies can, in principle, be used to track you on other websites that use the same third-party service. While we have no control over third-party cookies, we review the privacy policies of all our third-party providers before enlisting their services to ensure their practices align with ours. We will never knowingly include third-party services that disclose any of your personal information without your explicit and prior consent.

How you can control or opt out of cookies

If you do not wish to accept cookies from us, you can instruct your browser to refuse cookies from our website or open our website in an “incognito” window. Most browsers are configured to accept cookies by default, but you can update these settings to either refuse cookies altogether, or to notify you when a website is trying to set or update a cookie.

If you browse websites from multiple devices, you may need to update your settings on each individual device.

Although some cookies can be blocked with little impact on your experience of a website, blocking all cookies may mean you are unable to access certain features and content across the sites you visit.
